New to BMW Electric?
If you're comparing the upcoming iX3 against BMW's current electric lineup, our BMW i4 vs. BMW iX guide breaks down what's available to drive today while you wait for iX3 allocations.
The 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive is the first series-production model built on BMW's new "Neue Klasse" platform — the earliest real preview of the next generation of BMW electric vehicles. It isn't on our lot yet, but Berkeley and East Bay drivers can reserve one now and join our interest list to be contacted the moment allocations arrive.
Not yet — the 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive is confirmed for a US market launch on September 25, 2026, with deliveries beginning that same day. Reservations are open now on a $1,000 refundable deposit, with a starting price of $61,500 ($62,850 with destination and handling) and an EPA-estimated range of up to 434 miles. We can't guarantee an exact local arrival date yet, but joining our interest list is the fastest way to hear the moment allocation details firm up.
BMW is calling the iX3 the start of the "Neue Klasse" era — not just a new model, but a new design language, a new electric architecture, and new onboard technology that will spread across roughly 40 BMW models by 2027. The iX3 is the first of them to reach production, which makes it the earliest real look at where BMW's entire lineup is heading, electric and gas alike.
For BMW ownership specifically, that means the iX3 debuts sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology with cylindrical battery cells, an all-new 800V electrical architecture, and a fully redesigned interior built around a new operating system rather than incremental updates to the outgoing iX and i4.
The name is close on purpose — the iX3 is the electric counterpart to the gas and plug-in-hybrid X3 already in showrooms — but the two are not the same vehicle. The current X3 continues alongside the iX3, built on its existing platform with a combustion or PHEV drivetrain. The iX3 is a ground-up Neue Klasse vehicle: a new electric-only platform, a new cabin and control system, and specs (range, charging, output) that don't carry over from the X3 nameplate at all. If you're comparing the two, treat the iX3 as an entirely separate model that happens to share a name pattern, not an "electric trim" of the X3 you can see on our lot today.

At 188.3 inches long, 74.6 inches wide, and 114.1 inches on the wheelbase, the iX3 sits close to the current gas X3's footprint — so it isn't a size jump if you're cross-shopping the two, just a completely different platform underneath. Every iX3 also ships with a standard equipment list built around the new platform's technology, including Driving Assistant Plus for active safety and driver assistance, Digital Key Plus for phone-based locking and starting, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless device charging in the cabin — none of which require an options-list upgrade to get.
The iX3 introduces BMW's Panoramic iDrive system, which projects key driving information across the base of the windshield rather than confining it to a single instrument cluster. It's powered by the newly developed BMW Operating System X and what BMW calls the "Heart of Joy" superbrain — a central computing setup that also handles the car's driving dynamics in real time. Four high-performance onboard computers support both the infotainment experience and more advanced driver-assistance functions than the current iX or i4 offer.
The exterior follows an "all-new design language" BMW describes as reduced, characterful, and timeless: a vertically arranged kidney grille, a reworked take on BMW's signature four-eyed headlight face, and a 0.24 drag coefficient that helps support the car's efficiency numbers.

Weatherford BMW already services a large base of BMW EV owners across Berkeley and the East Bay, which matters once your iX3 actually arrives and needs its first service. Our team includes master-certified EV technicians, and we run 6 AM early-bird EV service appointments for East Bay commuters who need a car back before a Bay Bridge or I-80 commute. If you're weighing the total cost of owning a BMW EV in this market, our Bay Area BMW EV maintenance cost breakdown is a useful reference point before you finalize a reservation. And for context on the range itself: 434 miles is enough to cover a round trip from Berkeley to Lake Tahoe — roughly 380–400 miles round trip — without needing a charging stop along the way.

Yes. The $1,000 reservation deposit can be canceled and refunded at any time. The tradeoff is production priority — canceling gives up your place in the build queue, and the next customer in line moves up to take it.
