Overview

The 2008 BMW M5 is a four-door luxury sedan for those who demand uncompromised performance. The 2008 BMW M5 is a carryover from 2007 and has received a few subtle changes in interiors, door handles, and window switches for improved ergonomics and the much-maligned iDrive system gets six programmable memory keys.

Powertrain and performance

The M5 is powered by an incredibly advanced V-10 engine, with a five-liter capacity, 10 cylinders, 500-hp output, 383 lb-ft. of maximum torque, and an engine speed in excess of 8,000 rpm. The new M5 boasts of the most innovative drive concept in its class, the best power-to-weight ratio, super-car handling, as well as added luxurious appointments and outstanding everyday driving characteristics. It has a basic/power train warranty of 48 months or 50,000 miles.

Build and Styling

The 2008 BMW M5 is a phenomenal sedan with innovative body styling, incredible power, and the latest technology for an invigorating driving experience. It is available in only one trim and has a six-speed manual transmission. Its adaptive headlights allow the lenses to turn according to the steering, in the direction of travel, thereby lighting the road according to the driver’s convenience even on mountainous terrain. The M5 also features the MDrive button on the steering wheel, offering a one-touch function that changes the settings on the car to an enhanced sporty character.

Safety aspects

The M5 comes with a number of safety features. The standard safety equipment includes full-length side curtain airbags, front seat side airbags, traction control, and a stability control system programmed for performance driving. Rear seat side airbags and active head restraints are optional. The BMW M5 received a “Good” rating (the highest possible) during Insurance Institute for Highway Safety frontal-offset crash testing.
